"OUR" Prophet

I once read in a book somewhere that even though life is not perfect, we can still enjoy perfect moments in our daily lives.

Now, if you know me, you know that my house is rarely clean these days, I'm almost always late, I have a terrible habit of biting my nails, I often spend an entire day in my pj's just because I can't find the time to shower, I sometimes leave the house with kids who have messy faces, I eat way too many carbs, and we have melt downs and tantrums on a daily basis. And every weekend I make a resolution to do much better next week (to be more organized and clean, to be a better mom, etc.) and every mid-week I find life in a mess again and say I'll start over next Monday.

This is hard for me. I like perfection; I am one of those people who get stressed when things aren't going perfectly and it's hard for me to sometimes accept the fact that life isn't perfect and that I'm not perfect. That's why I loved this reminder that we can still have glimpses of perfection in our imperfect lives and I realized that I need to take time to stop and recognize these perfect moments that Heavenly Father blesses me with.

Yesterday, we had one of those perfect moments amidst imperfect surroundings. It was a busy day. I had lots going on with church obligations and a get together with some friends. When I got home in the evening around 8, the house was in shambles, toys everywhere and dishes in the sink and on the table, clothes piled up in the bedrooms and overflowing the hampers. I turned on the Christmas Devotional for our church and decided to at least wash some bottles for Maycee before getting the kids and myself to bed. Jase was making more messes with Play-Doh and paint when the prophet got up to speak. I turned to Jase and asked,

"Jase, look, who is that speaking to us on TV?"
Jase turned around and looked up at the televsion- got a huge smile on his face- "That's our President Monson!"
"Yes," I said, "he's the Prophet isn't he!"
"Yes! He is OURS! I'm gonna go show daddy!"

The smile on my face grew--'He is ours.' Our prophet who speaks to us the words the Savior himself would tell us. Who loves and serves us! I'm so thankful for our Prophet!

Jase ran off to get Ryan and they both come out to the family room together. Jase grabbed his blanket and cuddled up on the couch next to Ryan and I who held Maycee. Then, by some miracle, all was still- there was silence- and both kids watched as President Monson spoke about the true meaning and spirit of Christmas. Jase only spoke out once to tell us that President Monson was talking about Christmas (he was actually listening).
Then came the closing song, Silent Night, and I felt the spirit SO strong in our home (our messy home) in that moment. When the song finished, I looked at both kids to see them fast asleep. Ryan and I smiled at each other and I thought to myself 'Wow, what a perfect moment!'
